I was asked to review the book Before the Rain knowing that it was a lesbian love story. What I didn’t know was that it was a memoir of Luisata Lopez Torregrosa – her love affair with her fellow reporter, Elizabeth.
Lesbian love affair – absolutely no big deal – except maybe for the fact that there was a lot of emotion and drama. I have no clue if this was because it was about two women, or about Luisita and Elizabeth in particular.
What I did find fascinating was her description of life in wartorn countries in the 80s and 90s including Manila during the time of the expulsion of the Marcos. Fascinating stuff and so descriptive I could practically smell the places Luisita wrote about!
