Something comes up in every single Tarot workshop I teach. It is the “How do I” question.
How do I shuffle the cards?
How do I select a card?
How do I store the cards?
Consternation is written all over my students’ faces when I respond with “However it feels right for you.”
Invariably, they try to nail me to a more definitive answer.
“Do I cut the deck? Or do I fan through the deck?”
“However it feels right to you”, I reply once again.
“But I want to do it right!” they wail.
“The right way is however it feels right to you,” I come back with. I am kind of frustrating that way.
We have become disconnected from tapping into what feels right for us. We are inundated by rules and procedures. Not that I am knocking rules and procedures; they have their place. But, I think we have become a bit fear bound by them as well.
After all, holy crumpets, what if we screw up?
I am using Tarot as a example, but it applies to many aspects of our life. There are rules for what to eat and when to eat. Rules for what to wear based on our body shape. Even rules for dating someone younger! Which, in case you were unaware, is your age divided by two plus seven.
I eat what gives me the most energy. In my case it is gluten and dairy free, heavy on the protein, lighter on the fruits and vegetables. I wear clothes that make me feel WOW. I have no idea if they follow body shape rules. I even dated someone who was half my age, but not quite plus seven.
When other people are involved, it is handy to have external rules and procedures to follow to prevent chaos. Following traffic rules, for example, prevents potentially fatal accidents.
When we make decisions for ourselves, we have the luxury of looking inside, acting upon what feels right to us. Yes, it can be extremely uncomfortable in the beginning, but just keep at it. The proof will be in the pudding.
You will come to see that the right way truly is however it feels right for you.
