Words From The Editor: Stress, Empty Nest, Unreasonableness, Happiness, Wills
This past week was my staycation to unwind from a whirlwind of activities and pressures at home and work. On Monday, I slept until 2 in the afternoon! I was horrified thinking I had wasted my first day. Marc pointed out how silly this was, as I was supposed to be listening to my body and my body obviously needed to sleep.
Tuesday, I frantically wrote in my journal. Notice the word frantically. Not exactly a relaxing word, eh?
Finally, on Wednesday I picked up a who-done-it mystery novel and read all day. Ah, now I was getting somewhere. Thursday, I repeated the all day reading marathon.
And guess what happened?
Friday, as Marc and I were driving off for our anniversary weekend, life got a whole lot clearer. Over the course of the weekend, he and I had some great conversations and we are both much more focused.
Seems the trick to connecting is disconnecting.
I will be passing along some of my staycation epiphanies over the upcoming editorials and Silver & Grace newsletters. Stay tuned!
Along the theme of relaxing, on Tuesday I review Barbara Mitchell’s CD Just Relax…Like This. This CD is the companion tool for her book When You Need A Timeout.
Also on Tuesday, the dynamic duo Rosemary Lichtman and Phyllis Goldberg give us advice for Divorced Women Facing Empty Nest Syndrome. Our children flying the coop can be difficult enough to handle, but when all of a sudden you are totally alone as a single woman, there can be extra adjustments to make.
On Wednesday, Mari Selby encourages us to Be An Unreasonable Woman. That’s right, completely unreasonable. As in not doing what is expected of us. Shocking, eh?
Thursday, Matthew B.James gives us The Secret To Happiness. Similar to Mari’s article, Matthew encourages us to break out of old thinking patterns. Think that making other people will make you happy? See what Matthew has to say about that.
On Friday, we move from the more esoteric advice of relaxing and breaking old patterns, to concrete advice. Kelly Wilson talks to us about Getting Our Wills Written. This is something I strongly believe in, yet I have mine written and Marc does not. And I would probably be horrified to find out just how many people are like him. I have finally managed to move this task to the top of our To Do List. Do you need to move it to the top of yours?
Just for Fun!
This week’s Silver & Grace Fun Poll is about your favourite book genre. I read self development books for Silver & Grace reviews and my intuitive counseling business. But for sheer curl up and read pleasure, give me a great mystery novel with intriguing characters and plenty of plot twists.
